Red Cross review a successful year at AGM

-

AT the annual Carlingford/ Omeath Red Cross meeting held on the January 25 the outgoing chairperson Tom Maguire addressed the meeting and first of all congratulated the members on another successful year and thanked them for all the hard work they put in during the year.

He detailed the events that took place throughout the past year and said that once again the bi-monthly socials for the senior citizens were high on the agenda as they proved very popular but he also added that he would like to see more people attend as everyone is welcome.

He thanked all who helped at the socials, the hall committee, who continue to give us their support, Fr. Malachy for celebrating our annual Mass, to all the bands and musicians who entertain during the year. He also thanked those who helped with the church gate collections and those who collected and supported the flag day in December. He thanked all those who drive our mini bus and ambulance during the year and the many people who donated gifts for our raffles at the socials.

Finally he thanked all those who help and support us financially and those who organised fundraisers during 2016.

Our holiday this year was to Co. Wexford, where we stayed in the Ferrycarraig Hotel and all had a great time. Next on the agenda was the Christmas party which was held in the Four Seasons Hotel Carlingford and Tom thanked the management and staff for the lovely meal they served and their kind sponsorship for our raffle. He thanked the many who brought along gifts, and those who sponsored gifts for our Christmas raffle. It was much appreciated.

Our secretary, Niamh Begley, agreed with the chairperson’s report on all that took place during the year. She just wanted to add a few more items regarding the members who kept their skills up to date with several training courses provided locally. Additionally local members Zelda Larkin and Alma Donnelly qualified as E.M.T.S. Alma also passed her class C and D driving test and she will be able to drive the mini bus, another driver to add to the pool of drivers. The branch also provided a six week training course in basic first aid for the local secondary school.

Unit officer Cormac McGinn thanked all the members for giving him plenty of support during 2016 and all those who attended the courses in 2016. A man of few words!
