Admitted having drugs for sale

A man who was seen by Gardai involved in a drug deal admitted he was selling, the district court heard last week.

And the same man was caught again after he tried to get back into a house he had been renting when the new tenant had found drugs.

Alex Dunne, (23), 64 Grange Drive, Muirhevnamor was seen by Gardai at Long Avenue on January 29 last year, shortly before midnight.

Gardai said he was involved in a ‘drugs transaction’ with another man.

Cannabis worth €140 and cocaine worth €53 were found on him. Gardai also said that on June 5, a tenant at a house in College Manor contacted them to report items had been found on the property when they moved in.

While Gardai were there, Dunne came to the house and said that he used to live there and needed to get his property. There was a small amount of cannabis, around €10, in the home.

In addition, Gardai raided Dunne’s house at Grange Drive and again, found cannabis worth around €10. The defendant has seven previous convictions, including for driving offences, but none for drugs.

Solicitor Elaine Connolly said these incidents had happened when Dunne was unemployed, though he had been working for a year previously.

Ms Connolly said Dunne ‘ understands the impacts of drugs on society’ and added the defendant lives with his partner and daughter.

Judge Brennan said he would consider Dunne for 200 hours community service instead of a nine month jail term and he adjourned the case to March 22 for a suitability report.
