Driver crashed into round about

-

A driver who was found by Gardai drinking from a bottle of Captain Morgan’s on his 21st birthday following a crash near Dundalk was prosecuted for having a small amount of cannabis in a separate incident.

Craig Callan (22), 45 O’Hanlon Park, was found by Gardai who had been called to the scene of a crash at the Red Cow roundabout on May 26 2015.

A red Audi was found to have crashed into the roundabout and taken down a traffic sign.

At the scene, Callan admitted to being the driver and handed over the car keys to Gardai, who also said he was drinking from a bottle of Captain Morgan’s. He had no licence or insurance.

He also admitted having around €20 worth of cannabis when he was searched with a number of other youths at Rampart Lane on March 26.

The driving case had been adjourned to last week so the court could hear about any damage to the roundabout.

Judge Brennan was told that Louth County Council was asked for an estimate of the cost, but they are ‘ not following up on the cost of the damage’.

The judge had already imposed a €100 fine for not having a driving licence and the same penalty was given for failing to produce insurance.

Barrister Irene Sands said no-one was injured in the crash at the roundabout which had happened in a family vehicle. Callan was ‘going through a bad time’.

Judge Brennan told Callan: ‘You would want to be very careful about your behaviour in future’. He found the facts proven and dismissed the drugs possession charge.
