Monaghan duo put Saints through their paces

-

LAST Saturday’s training session was no ordinary workout for St. Brides U14 and U16 girls teams.

Despite the deluge the previous evening Monaghan inter-county stars Ciara McAnespsie and Ellen McCarron put the girls through their paces.

McAnespsie is the captain of Farney senior team and a three time All Star, while McCarron is also a key player on what is a very talented Monaghan team.

The inclement weather rendered the pitch at Knockbridge unplayable, but Naomh Malachi stepped into the breach at the 11th hour to ensure the day went ahead. St Bride’s were xtremely grateful to their neighbours for providing the use of their excellent facilities.

Ciara and Ellen led the enthusiastic Knockbridge girls in a training session which was akin to their own county training with Monaghan.

After 90 minutes the Monaghan stars addressed the players and their families with an enjoyable and informative talk and took the time to answer some interesting and tricky questions from the young players.

Ciara and Ellen had the Ulster trophy with them to show the girls and explained the journey they encountered to reclaim the title.

For St Bride’s young players to meet, train with, get words of encouragement and advice from two players who are in their 11th year playing senior football for their county was incredible.

Ciara McAnespsie and Ellen McCarron are an inspiration and great ambassadors for Ladies Gaelic football.

Both friendships and memories were made on Saturday between the two girls and potential future Louth county stars.

The club wholeheartedly thank Ciara McAnespsie and Ellen McCarron for exceeding the players expectations and inspiring them simultaneously.
