Bay keep the pressure on promotion contenders

-

BAY FC 7 DUNSHAUGHLIN 0

A terrible night for football on Friday with non-stop torrential rain for the duration of the game didn’t dampen Bay’s performance, as they ran out comfortable 7-0 winners.

They started like a house on fire, chasing down every ball and giving Dunshaughlin no time on the ball.

The opening goal wasn’t long in coming with Victor Galan chasing down a lost cause and cut the ball back to Neven Novosel on the 18 yard line. He controlled it with his left foot and lashed an unstoppable half volley with his right into the top corner.

Moments later Novosel turned creator, squaring a ball for Marcel Ekwueme to slot home from ten yards.

It was Ekwueme’s turn to provide the assist as he set up Alfonso Crespo for the third and only 12 minutes elapsed.

Dunshaughlin couldn’t get a foot hold in the game as Bay pressed forward, creating chance after chance.

Before retiring due to injury Crespo grabbed his second goal with the goal of the game. His quick feet on the edge of the area took him past two defenders before curling a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Novosel grabbed his second when great pressing from the front two forced a back pass which the keeper sliced, hitting it off Novosel and rolled across the six yard box for an easy finish.

Before the restart Dunshaughlin were reduced to ten men when one of their players received a red card for dissent just before the break.

With Dunshaughlin down to ten men it reduced their attacking threat and the game became an exercise in keep ball for Bay.

Ekwueme grabbed his second goal after a fine passing move left him one on one with the goalkeeper to make it 6-0.

Dunshaughlin rarely threatened but with 15 minutes remaining they were awarded a penalty.

Their striker had no luck though, shooting high over the bar.

Novosel rounded off a fine night for Bay, completing a hat trick of assists, when setting up Aaron Kelly to grab his first goal for the club, slotting first time into the far corner. With two games remaining Bay’s promotion hopes lie in the hands of the chasing pack.

They need them to drop points in their games in hand to finish in the promotion spots. BAY: Kevin Mullen, Robbie Rafferty, Joe Woods, Ciaran Boland (Paddy Mc Shane 60), Angelo Stanley, Victor Galan (Sandro Stefanovski 60), Kevin Scollon (David McCartney 60), Neven Novosel, Peter Sweeney (Marcel Ekwueme), Alfonso Crespo (Aaron Kelly 38).
