24 PEOPLE CHARGED WITH HAVING DRUGS FOR SALE OR SUPPLY

A number of people arrested under the Garda’s Operation Varlet, targeting drug dealing in Dundalk, have appeared in court.

The operation involved local Gardai along with Regional Support Units and the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and happened last year.

At Dundalk District Court last week, 24 people were charged with having drugs for sale or supply before Judge John Coughlan. All of them were remanded on continuing bail to appear again on May 10.

Heroin formed the bulk of the drug dealing charges, while prescripti­on medication, including Alprazolam, which is sometimes branded as Xanax, featured in a number of the charges. The judge was told in all cases the amounts alleged to be involved are small and Judge Coughlan said he would deal with all the matters at the district court level.

Kieran Kearney (26), Dundalk Simon Community, is charged with having Alprazolam (which is often branded as Xanax) without a prescripti­on at Culhane Street on May 18. He’s also charged with having heroin at Chapel Street on April 27.

Mark Gorman, (33), 188 St Alphonsus Road, is accused of having cannabis at St Alphonsus Road on December 14 and cannabis at the Ramada Hotel on December 21.

Kevin Duffy, (28), 23 Blackwater Court, Dundalk is accused of having cannabis at Bar One Racing, Greenacres on December 8.

Patrick Donoghue, (55), Glengat B&B, Stapleton Place, is accused of having heroin at Roden Place on April 19 and 21.

Gary Bailey, (31), 14 Grange Close, Muirhevnam­or, is accused of having Alprazolam at the Avenue Road on October 24, November 11, November 24 and at Market Square on October 27.

Peter Tippins, (24), 48 Cooley Park, is accused of having heroin at Jocelyn Street on March 9 2016.

Gareth Ward, (35), 16 Oldbridge, Toberona, is accused of having Alprozolam at McDonald’s, Dundalk on May 11 and heroin at the Market Square on April 7.

Niall Smith, (37), Dundalk Simon Community, is accused of having heroin at an address in Culhane Street on March 21 2016.

James O’Hanlon, (32), 389 Beechmount Drive, is accused of having heroin at Castletown Road, on October 19 and on November 21 and 29.

Darren O’Hanlon (30), 497 Ashling Park, is accused of having heroin at Peter Street, Dundalk on March 7 and 23.

Daniel O’Grady (28), 27 Oakland Park, is accused of having heroin at Roden Place on April 29.

Robert McKinley, (25), 2 Laurel Grove, Greenacres, is accused of having cannabis at Bar One Racing, Greenacres on November 25, and on December 6 and 15.

Sean Gorman (25), 117 College Manor, is accused of having cannabis at Townparks, Dundalk on August 15, and having Zimovane and Zopliclone tablets, brands of sleeping medication, at the Avenue Road without prescripti­ons on July 8.

Paul McDonagh, (29), 5 Pinewood Grove, Bay Estate, is charged with three counts of having heroin at Peter Street on March 7 and 23 and at St Alphonsus Road on September 8. He is also charged with having Alprozam at Hazelwood Avenue on May 16.

John McDonagh (27), 8 Cooley park is accused of having heroin at Peter Street on March 23 and at St Alphonsus Road on October 6 and 7.

Catriona McArdle (30), 14 Chapel Street, is accused of having Zoplicone tablets at St Leonard’s Garden, without a prescripti­on, on October 18.

David McDonagh, (40), 6 Road 2, Muirhevnam­or, is accused of having cannabis at that address on December 6 and Alprazolam, also at that address on December 14.

Andrew Maguire, (23), 47 Maple Close, is accused of having heroin at Doolargy Avenue, Muirhevnam­or, on June 8 and 21 and at Hoey’s Lane on June 14.

James McDonagh, (25), 56 College Heights, is accused of having heroin at Tesco Extra on April 14 and May 6 and having heroin at Aura Leisure Centre on April 12.

Niall Mackin, (24), 8 Patrick Tierney Crescent, is accused of having cannabis at the Castletown Road on August 12 and at the car park at Dunnes Stores Ard Easmuinn on August 15.

Fiona Larrissey, (49), 15 Windmill Court, Mill Street is accused of having Zoplicone at Mill Street, without a prescripti­on, on October 11.

James English (56), 15 Windmill Court, Mill Street, is accused of having Alprazolam at Mill Street, without prescripti­on on November 22.

Karen Dullaghan, (31), 5 Culhane Street, is charged with having Alprazolam at that address without prescripti­on on December 21.
