Bush students take home major prize from PE Expo
STUDENTS from Bush Post Primary school celebrated taking home a major prize from the PE EXPO Ireland national awards last week.
The north Louth students Niamh Rice, Ciara Gregory Leah Kirwan and Clara Lynch saw their expertise put to the test at the national competition for students of Physical Education.
They faced tough competition from over one hundred and forty student projects entered from all over Ireland.
And their project faced intensive scrutiny as judging was overseen by the PE Inspectorate and Senior lecturers from the Physical Education courses in UCC UL and DCU.
The Cooley girls’ project was entitled: ‘ To investigate the dropout rate of girls in physical activity in secondary school,’ and looked at the reasons behind female students lack of participation in sports and /or physical activities when they reached adolescence.
Proud teacher Paul Malone was thrilled to confirm the Bush school’s project was in the top five overall and the students won ‘Best Project’ in ‘ The Power of Sport’ category
The six categories in the competition were ICT and Sports Photography, ‘ The Power of Sport - Mental, Cultural, Social or Environmental , Components of Fitness, and the science behind sport nutrition.
The competition also focused on key areas such as health pro- motion and games development and at sports psychology.
Congratulations to the students involved and their PE teacher Mr Paul Malone!
