Ardee quash gutsy Glens’ comeback

-

GLENMUIR CELTIC 2 ARDEE CELTIC 7

TWO terrific goals either side of the interval raised the prospect of a fruitful comeback by Glenmuir in this under-12 premier division match at Glenmuir Park.

Both scored direct from freekicks from distance near the touch line on the right at different ends of the pitch cut Ardee’s lead to a single goal after they had opened up a three goal lead in the first 20 minutes.

However, the Deesiders quickly and emphatically crushed Glenmuir’s hopes of coming away with something for their efforts.

For they are in no mood to relinquish their ambition of bridging the gap with the top teams with games in hand and all coming thick and fast.

Star player James Maguire straight away broke clear down the left and his low cross bounced over Jake Corrigan’s foot straight in front of a gaping goal. But it was a very short reprieve for the home side.

For Oisin Dowdall steered home the resulting corner kick by Tadgh McDonnell, and triggered a three goal burst in four minutes that stretched Ardee’s lead to 6-2.

Sean Callaghan nipped in ahead of the home goalkeeper to flick Maguire’s pass from mid-field into the open net, and a few minutes later the same combination produced Ardee’s sixth goal. Callaghan unmarked at the back post headed in his teammate’s corner kick.

It was fitting then that Maguire completed his side’s tally when he outpaced the Glenmuir defence and slipped the ball past the goalkeeper.

He took only four minutes to put his side on the road to victory with a brilliant finish from a long kick out by his goalkeeper Andrew Wogan. He beat the defence for speed and as the ball bounced flicked it first time high into the far corner of the net.

Leon Miles slotted home their second goal five minutes later when Oisin Dowdall was put through on the left by Callaghan and his shot rebounded off the butt of the post right into the path of Miles.

A really slick three man move produced a second goal for Miles and third for Ardee after 20 minutes after Dowdall and Maguire split the Glenmuir defence down the right for their teammate to turn in a low cross at the near post

The nearest Glenmuir came to scoring was when Lennon O’Hanlon just failed to get a touch which was all he needed with his head to divert a free-kick into the Ardee net.

However, there was no stopping Tom McMahon’s blistering free-kick that goalkeeper Wogan did well to get his finger tips to as it roared into the far corner of the net to reduce the deficit on the stroke of half-time.

Then four minutes into the second-half Aniss Himuer produced another blockbuster that was if anything more un-stoppable.

But Ardee almost instantly regained command and overall sounded a loud warning to the leaders that they intend to be strong contenders to lift the title with a really impressive fluent and skilful display.
