REDEEMER 1 BAY UNITED 6

SCHOOLBOYS SOCCER ROUND-UP Depleted Redeemer hit for six by brilliant Bay boys

-

REDEEMER could only field nine players and therefore didn’t stand much of a chance in this bottom half of the table encounter at Bellew Park.

So the result was almost inevitable as Bay changed places with them in the under-14 first division table, with only a point separating them before the kick-off.

By 20 minutes the writing was on the wall for the game Redeemer, who did their best to cope with their disadvantage and posed no little problems for the winners.

Indeed they produced the game’s best attacking move with a storming run by Cameron Hayes from half way, swiftly taking him past three defenders and free of the Bay defence down the left and transferred the ball inside to Kieran Mac ken whose first time shot from the edge of the penalty box produced a full length save inside the post by goalkeeper Oisin Norman to deny Redeemer an equaliser.

A loose pass across the 18 yard box presented Laurymas Zvikas with the opportunity to put Bay ahead as he intercepted the ball and broke free down the right wing.

He struck the ball high across goal to the far post where it dropped into the top of the net, one suspected more by accident than design after five minutes.

Bay quickly turned the screw after Norman made that save, with the strapping Ndowan Akoror wriggling through a cluster of players on the right to surge clear into the penalty box only to drag his shot across goal.

But he quickly made amends for that miss by increasing his team’s lead when he collected the ball midway inside the Redeemer half and cut through the middle of the defence to shoot to the net.

He then laid his side’s third goal on a plate for Liam McEnaney who ran the ball into the net as Akoror swept past two opponents on the right and put in a pinpoint low cross to the far post .

It soon became four nil with the exposed Redeemer goalkeeper Mikey Doyle taking down the very menacing Dean Peters who raced clear into the penalty box. Sean Connolly calmly dispatched the spot kick low to the net.

The dangerous Kieran Macken raised Redeemer hopes with a well taken goal which he placed into the top of the net past Norman as he raced clear into the Bay box.

Within four minutes of the re-start they were dashed by Peters who tore into the box and with time and space shot into the top corner.

Kieran Macken personified the defiance of the losers as he went on a driving run from near half way into the Bay box, leaving two opponents in his wake that deserved a goal but he somewhat hurriedly sliced his shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Liam McCarthy completed the scoring when he tapped in the rebound after Peter Ucheboh raced through on his own and his shot struck the bottom of the post. REDEEMER: Mikey Doyle, Daniel Duffy, Christopher Wykes, Noel Moran, Conor Walls, Cameron Hayes, Benny Crosby, Kieran Macken, Greg Shannon.
