CLOVERHILL
THE opening 18-hole competition of the season was a singles stableford in which the early Sunday morning players competed with a continual downpour with the late starters having a distinct advantage as the playing conditions were a lot more pleasant which was reflected in the scoring.
Given the form he was in over the course of both the Winter and Eclectic league it is no surprise that odds-on favourite Noel McParland (25) duly obliged by continuing his good form to visit the winners enclosure once again. Although playing conditions meant that this was a non-qualifying competition there is little doubt that Noel will be the topic of conversation at the handicap convenor s meeting this week. Runner-up with 42 points was Terry Taylor (12) with Ciaran Finnegan (28) back in third spot with 39. Liam O Hare (17), Clive Whelan (26), Anthony Boden (16) and Eamon Devlin (20) all finished with 38 points. Eamon, Ciaran, Liam along with Justin Byrne and Graham Johnston opened their 2’s accounts. Now that the first 18 hole competition off the White markers has taken place it can serve as a warm -up to the first Major Competition of the year which is Sponsored by Byrne Monumental, Crossmaglen (30861256) and will take place next weekend.
Round three of the Seniors Spring League on Thursday morning saw a plugged-in Charlie McShane light up the winners enclosure with his presence as the winner with a point to spare over Joe Hazzard. The penultimate round of the competition will be played next Thursday at 10am.
