Point to Point raises funds for good causes

THE Oriel Harriers/Dundalk Lions Club annual point-to-point races, which has provided local charitable causes with some £30,000 since it was inaugurate­d, is expected to raise another £7,000 following the latest renewal.

St. Brigid’s special school, St. Mary’s, Drumcar and the sheltered workshop for the handicappe­d in St. Oliver Plunklett Hospital, Ardee Road, are all set to benefit.

The feature event at Dundalk racecourse, the P. J. Carroll Open, is won by Mr. Gaffney, owned by Mickey McGovern from Newry, and ridden by his son, Colm.

The nomination race, confined to local hunt jockeys, provides a victory for Mary Mahon on Ryans Fancy VI.

A draw for a trip for two to New York is won by Karla Cagney, Wallaces Road, Blackrock.
