FROM JUNK TO COUTURE

Junk Kouture finalists from local schools. Seven stunning creations by students from local post primary schools have reached the finals of the Junk Kouture, Ireland’s leading fashion and art competitio­n for second level students.

The finalists all took part in the local Trashion Fashion event in the Carrickdal­e Hotel where 55 models showcased their couture outfits of all shapes and sizes made by the least couture of materials – junk! Each outfit is unique. Each one is made from 100% recycled materials!

They then took part in the hotly contested Eastern Regional Final and are now set to take part in the Junk Kouture National Final which takes place in the 3Arena on April 27.

Louth will be represente­d at the National Final by three entries from Coláiste Rís, Dundalk, one each from Bush Post Primary School and Scoil Ui Mhuire, Dunleer and two from St Vincent’s Secondary School, Dundalk.

Representi­ng Colaiste Ris are Kate Arnold, Caitlin Ross and Laura McKevitt- Grills with ‘Pandora’s Box’; Uche Ibeh with ‘Can You See Me Now’; and James McCarron, Kieran Lennon and Cathal Purcell with ‘Wonka’s Wonder’.

Leah Condron and Lucy Murphy from Bush Post Primary School are the creators of ‘Espresso Yourself ’, while Emma Campbell from Scoil Ui Mhuire designed ‘ Archaic Motiff ’.

St Vincent’s is represente­d by Ruth Clarke, Niamh Matthews, Maeve Reilly and Dearbhla McCourt with ‘Moulin Rouge’, as well as Eastern Region ‘Wildcard’ winners Rachel Lowry and Molly Hand, Aoife Begley and Roisin Langan who learned of their success when Snapchat extraodina­ire and social media darling James Kavanagh visited the school.

The judges of this year’s final include Louis Walsh and Una Healy from the Saturdays, as Aoife Quiugley St Vincents School Dundalk wearing her dress BInderella who was winner of the Bank of Ireland and Junk Kouture wild card receiving it from Billy Kehoe Manager Bank of Ireland with Art Art teachers Carmel Cline and Caoimhe Woods at St Vincents school The Wild card secures their place in the final in the 3 Arena on the 27th of April 2017 in the Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture Grand Final well as local artist and Head of Department in Fine Art and Head of Centre of Postgradua­te Studies in Limerick School of Art and Design, Dr Tracy Fahey.

The prizes include €2,500 cash for the school, €500 cash and iPad minis for the winning team, as well as a scholarshi­p to the Limerick School of Art & Design. The overall and regional winning teams will also attend the Cannes Film Festival in May 2017.
