The sun shone brightly on volunteers who collected on the streets of Dundalk for Daffodil last Friday. ‘We had a lot of new volunteers and the old reliables who turned out and did a great job,’ says Ann McKeown, chairperson of the Dundalk Branch of the Irish Cancer Society.

While the amount raised has yet to be totalled with some money still to be handed in, Ann says that so far they have raised over €26,000.

An Tain Arts Centre turned yellow from Wednesday night in support of Daffodil Day, which is the largest annual fund raiser for the Irish Cancer Society.

Ann expressed thanks to all those who contributed to the success of this year’s Daffodil Day, including the volunteers who gave of their time to help with the collection, the drivers who collected funds from the various collection points, those who counted the money and the committee who organised the event.

She also thanked the organisers of the coffee morning in Dundalk Tennis Club and Smyth’s Pharmacy, Seatown Place, who held an in-store event in support of Daffodil Day, ‘I also want to say ‘ thank you’ to John Hughes who drove all around the country and stopped with us at lunch time Thursday with boxes of beautiful fresh daffodils and to Brenda Mc Carthy, coordinator with the Irish Cancer Society Dublin who drove down Friday morning to visit the various collection points to wish us well.’ D
