Duffy and all those affected by the crash of the coast guard helicopter off the Mayo coast.

‘Wake in the west’, a three act comedy by Michael Joe Ginnelly was chosen by the group at the end of last year and has been in rehearsal since December, under the direction of Brigitte Nelson and with a cast of nine local actors. No date has been set for the rescheduling of the play and anyone who has purchased tickets is advised to return them to the place they purchased them for a full refund.’

Pupils in Saint Fursey’s National School are taking part in a laudable project in support of the work of the charity Bothar to help poverty stricken communities help themselves and create a sustainable living environment.

The pupils in fourth and fifth classes at the initiation of teacher Lorraine Higgins and under her active direction are holding a ‘loose change’ collection over a number of weeks to raise funds for the charity.

The accumulated total at the end will, at the pupils choice be given over to buy animal/s or aid communities in different ways.

Bóthar works with 16 different species of animal as well as providing training in animal husbandry, veteri- nary support and other important inputs to make their projects a success.

The objective is really to help communities combat poverty and hunger. Cows and goats and hives of bees are among the more common ways that Bothar help such communities.

Lorraine joined the teaching staff of Saint Fursey’s this year and was encouraged to initiate the project by the success of a similar scheme for Bother she organised in her previous school in Faughart.

There is an additional educational benefit to the project for the pupils and also a reward incentive. Prizes are offered to the group of pupils who manage to collect the most funds, with buckets in the classrooms involved to make on-going

donations, and a leader board kept updated.

To create awareness of the project and seek support, Lorraine and the pupils put together a music video, which involved utilising different skills relating to music and computers.

These are two areas that Lorraine enjoys, and sees the value of teaching through the medium of music. The making of the video entailed adapting a fittingly named song ‘No Money’ released last year by Swedish electronic music duo Galantis.
