CARLINGFORD HOMES THE TARGET OF ARSON INCIDENTS

- ANNE CAMPBELL

THE door of a house and curtains in another home were set alight during arson incidents in Carlingford last week.

Gardai are looking at CCTV in a bid to identify the suspect who is believed to have caused the fires between midnight and 1am, in the Newry Street area of the village on Friday. One homeowner discovered that their front door was on fire and a short time later, it was discovered that an attempt had been made to set fire to the curtains of a house nearby where a bedroom window had been left open.

Meanwhile, Dundalk Gardai have charged a 30-year-old local man with possession of certain articles and criminal damage following an incident on Saturday morning at Mullaharlin Park.

Gardai caught the man, it is alleged, trying to break into a house on the estate at around 11.30am. A number of screwdrivers were found on him and there was damage to a window at the property, Gardai claim.

And Gardai in Ardee are appealing for information regarding break-ins to two vans in the town on Tuesday last, March 28. The first van was broken into at Stoneylane at around 9pm and the second was targeted around a half an hour later at Clonmore.

Both vans contained gardening equipment and power tools. And in an unrelated incident, distinctive orange coloured electric fencing was stolen from a field at Broadlough in Ardee between March 4 and 6.

The fencing is electrified netting and Gardai believe a significant amount of time was spent in removing the material and a van would have been needed. Anyone with information about these crimes can contact Dundalk at 042 9335577.
