730 BURGLARIES IN LOUTH IN 2017

There were 730 burglaries carried in the Louth Garda Division during, according to new figures just released.

A breakdown of the latest figures from the CSO shows that 184 of these occurred during October, November and December, 189 during the first quarter of the year and 196 during the second quarter.

The figures were lower (161) during the brighter summer months of July, August and September.

The number of burglaries in the district have dropped by almost a third, down by 336 from 1066 in 2015 to 730 in 2016 according to the report from the CSO.

The number of aggravated burglaries taking place in the region has also dropped from 16 in 2015 to 11 last year. Just one of these took place in the last three months of the year.

The latest figures show there were 66 cases involving robbery, extortion or hijacking in the Louth Garda Division during 2016 and 33 robberies of an establishm­ent or institutio­n. There were 26 robberies from a person, down considerab­ly from 2015 when 43 took place.

The number of sexual offences taking place in the region is on the rise, with 79 incidents reported last year compared to 62 for the previous 12 months.

Likewise, there has been an increase in the number of rapes reported to gardaí with 63 in the Louth Garda District in 2016 compared to 57 in 2015.

Statistics from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show there were 505 recorded cases of attempts/threats to murder, assaults, harassment­s and related offences throughout the region last year.
