LUMPER’SSOCIETY

-

THE society got the golfing season up and running, when a large number of members travelled to Ardglass Golf Club, Co. Down on Sunday, March 26th for Captain, Gerry Malone’s, Drive-in.

The format for the competition was singles-stableford and Captain, Gerry led the way with a fine drive to the centre of the fairway, which was applauded by the members gathered around the first tee box.

A fine sunny day, combined with a well presented golf course made for a most enjoyable round of golf for the group. With these favourable conditions, a number of the golfers took advantage to post some very good scores.

When the round was completed and all the scorecards were returned and checked, the winning scorecard was returned by the in-form golfer, Malachy Duffy.

In doing so, Malachy goes to the top of the leader board for Golfer of the Year, setting down a clear marker that he intends to make a serious defence of the title he won for the first time in 2016.

Following the round, the golfers enjoyed a meal and refreshments in the clubhouse. During the presentation of prizes, Captain, Gerry thanked the members for attending his Drive-In, the committee and members of Ardglass for the use of their facilities and the caterer for providing a delicious meal.

The Captain reserved a special mention for Londis Crilly’s Shop for their generosity in sponsoring the prizes. The prize winners were as follows: 1st Malachy Duffy, 2nd Alan Dullaghan, 3rd Gerry Malone, Nearest the Pin David Griffin, Longest Drive Alan Dullaghan.

The next outing will be to Greenore Golf Club on Saturday, April 22nd and members are reminded that the draw for the first round of the Match-play Competition will be held at this outing.
