THE death has occurred peacefully of Kathleen Carroll, Drumass, Inniskeen on 10 March, 2017, at her home, and surrounded by her loving family.
Kathleen was born in February 1925 to Bernard and Jane McEnaney of Raferagh, Shercock.
She met Paddy Carroll from Inniskeen in October 1949. Together they had six children, Mary, Bernard, Eileen, Michéal, Margaret and Carmel. Sadly, Bernard passed away in June 1954.
Kathleen devoted her life to her family and worked on the family farm. She was a wonderful baker and knitted Aran jumpers and cardigans for the American market.
Her sense of humour carried her through life. Kathleen had a great devotion to Our Lady and visited Knock on many occasions.
She was a life-long pioneer and a devoted church-goer.
Sadly, her husband Paddy passed away on 5 September, 1973, leaving Kathleen a widow at the age of 48.
She will be sadly missed by her children Mary, Eileen, Michéal, Margaret and Carmel; her daughter-in-law Margaret; sons-in-law, Brendan and Francie; her 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Kathleen was pre-deceased by her son-in-law Jim Loftus.
Kathleen reposed at her family home in Drumass, Inniskeen, before her removal to Mary Mother of Mercy Church, Inniskeen for her funeral Mass on Sunday morning.
The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Martin Treanor and assisted by Deacon Paul Casey.
The music was provided by Inniskeen Folk Group.
Items symbolising Kathleen’s life, which included a family photograph, rosary beads, brown bread and a tea pot, were presented by her grandchildren Oisín, Rachael, Róisin and Paul.
The readings were given by her grandchildren Niamh and Rónan. The Offertory gifts were presented by her son Michéal and daughter Eileen. Prayers of the Faithful were read by her grandchildren Orla, Andrew, Shauna, Paul and Claire. The Reflection was read by granddaughter Laura Carroll.
Inniskeen Grattans GFC formed a guard of honour.
The Month’s Mind Mass for Kathleen will be held in Mary Mother of Mercy Church, Inniskeen on Saturday, 8 April, 2017, at 7.30pm.
