Adrian O’Sullivan, Road Safety Officer from Louth County Council said: ‘On behalf of Louth County Council, we would like to congratulate the winning schools on their achievements. It was a great result to see two Dundalk schools coming away with the top prizes in a national competition. It shows how seriously the issue of road safety is taken by both pupils and their teachers here in County Louth. All those involved should be very proud of their achievements’.
Principal of Castletown Girls School, Marion McNally, said ‘We are so proud of our girls and we had a great day as guests of the Road Safety Authority in Dublin Castle and the Zoo. The girls were so excited about it all’. The comments were also echoed by Martina Rafferty, principal, Scoil Mhuire na nGael.
‘Seatbelt Sheriff ’ and ‘Hi- Glo Silver’ are fun, educational road safety programmes, for children in first and second class in primary school. The competition encourages children to get involved in saving lives on the road by teaching them the importance of buckling up and wearing high visibility clothing.
