Launch of cross cooley challenge
THE MOUNTAIN WALK WILL RAISE VITAL FUNDS FOR TWO LOCAL CAUSES
THE Committee of the Cross Cooley Challenge are delighted to announce a repeat of the successful walks of last years over the scenic Cooley Mountain where 245 trekkers enjoyed a day of fun and fundraising.
Last year €28,500 was raised for the very deserving causes of the North Louth Hospice and the Maria Goretti Foundation. In total this walk over the first three years has raised €72,500 of which 100% has gone directly to both charities.
The 15.5km walk will take place on Saturday April 22nd, starting from the Lumpers at 11a.m. taking the challenging walk across the Cooley Mountains into Carlingford.
The organisers are ensuring a fun day with a refreshments for all walkers and some pleasant surprises on the route., and have urged as many as possible to support these great causes by sponsoring the walkers or even better turning up on the Saturday morning, April 22nd at 10am to register at the Lumpers and enjoy a great experience.
Seamus Gormley one of the organisers said: ‘it is great to have the local businesses support in the form of supplying services such as Bus Éireann, Anchor Tours, Horseware, Ovelle, Mace, Total Produce and these add to the fun day out by all the enthusiastic walkers and fundraisers’.
Registration for the walk is open from 9am at the Greenore Railway Saloon, Quay Street, with buses leaving at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. For those who are from the Cooley area registration will take place at 10a.m. at the Lumpers entrance.
All are invited to participate in this fun day by either walking or financially supporting the walkers.
Errol Boyle added: ‘We decided to include both the Maria Goretti Foundation and the North Louth Hospice as there are very few families in Co Louth who have not benefited by their great work at a time of great need in their life’.
