Muscular dystrophy fun run raised more than €3,000

-

THE organisers of the Fun Run and Walk for Muscular Dystrophy have thanked all those who took part and helped raise a great total of €3610.

Muscular dystrophy is the collective name for a range of neuromuscular conditions, which are characterized by the progressive weakening and wasting of the muscles.

It can affect adults and children. Some forms arise at birth or in childhood, others may not manifest themselves until later in life.

Each type of muscular dystrophy arises from a different genetic mutation or deletion which is inherited from one or both parents, or is due to a spontaneous mutation.

This means that there are many families who have more than one member with the condition.

There is no cure for muscular dystrophy but there have been huge advances in increasing the quality of life for people with the condition and scientists around the world are working hard to develop new treatments.

The organisers wish to thank the following who sponsored the event: Fyffes, Celtic Pure Carrickmacross, Value Centre Dundalk, Largo Foods Ashbourne, Print Express Dundalk, Howell Jewellers Carrickmacross, The Cycle and Trophy Centre Dundalk, Horseware ,The Hairdresser Carrickmacross, IGWT Poultry Services, Underwater Pool Repairs Carrickmacross, and all other stores who sponsored prizes for the event.

They also thanked the Dominican Fathers (Friary) and the Friary Youth Club for the use of the centre for the event and their support on the day.

They would like wish to thank Philip Kerley who was the Grand Marshall on the day who led the run, they stewards who kept everyone safe throughout the run, the Louth Civil Defence for providing support on the day, An Garda Siochana Dundalk station for supporting traffic management on the day and anyone else who helped at the event.
