On Friday night, I headed for Kennedys Bar where a special Table Quiz was being held as a fundraiser for the St. Patricks Ventures Scouts who are heading for a hiking holiday in southern Italy during the summer.

St. Patricks Scouts are based in Castletown Road and have 150 youth members with Beavers aged from 6 to 8, Cubs from 9 to 11, Scouts from 12 to 15s, Ventures from 15 to 18s and Rovers 18 + and now possess the first girl member in Niamh Byrne from Knockbridge who joined from the Guides only three weeks ago!

I decided to have a look to see who was up for taking part in the quiz and first met up with Aidan McGuinness from Ard Easmuinn who told me he was looking forward to a really good night with everyone there.

After this I caught up with Francis Meehan from Bridge Street who told me he was awaiting the arrival of the rest of his team so they could do battle on the night.

Making my way over to one of the tables where I got talking to Jack and Grainne Cumiskey from Demesne Road who were with Michael and Geraldine Mulholland from Pearse Park. Jack told me he is involved with the Scouts and he and his team were there to win!

Next I met up with Pierce and Aoife Byrne from Belfry Drive who were with Brendan Gaskin from Blackrock who told me Pierce’s son Sean was helping out with the running of the night and they too were up for a major win.

Also ready to do major battle on the night were Paddy Dullaghan from Farndreg, Eoin Quigley from Claddagh Park, Davy English from Fr. Murray Park, Paul McGuinness from Barton Park and Ronan Curtis from Saltown who were in rare form and ready to make a night of it.

Heading for another table I then caught up with Feargal Donnelly from Dublin Road, Fiachra Cumiskey from Demesne Road, Sean Byrne from Belfry Drive and the newest member Niamh Byrne from Knockbridge. The lads are all Ventures and will be heading for Italy in the summer.

Just arrived in and ready for a major head scratcher of a night were Greg and Sam Tipping, David and Siobhan Duffy all from Medebawn and Paddy McKevitt from Hoey’s Lane. Greg told me that his kids Conal, Oisin and Fionn are involved in the club and their team were certain to take away the major prizes on the night.

Heading for another table I got talking to Ronan Clarke from Stonetown, Robert Brennan from Kilkerley, Megan Garry from Co. Meath (“not from Drogheda”, I was reliably informed!) and Dan McKeever from Kilcurry who assured me they certainly weren’t there to make up the numbers!

After this I headed over for a word with Matthew McCrave from Hackballscross, Gary Reynolds from Drogheda who told me he wants to go to Italy to see how they get an egg inside the pasta, Jennifer Morgan and Conor Bolton from Park Villas and Jason O’Rourke from Dromiskin who were all feeling quietly confident about their abilities.

Not too long later I met up with Paddy and Caoimhín O’Callaghan from Avenue Road who had joined forces with Michael and Aine Donnelly from Tudor Grove who told me their son Feargal will be on the trip with the Ventures and they were delighted to be there to participate.

Making my way over to another table I then got talking to Elizabeth Tumulty from Castle Park, Fiona and Peter Dixon from Marian Park and Sandra and Gerry Flynn from Forkhill who were looking forward to the quiz and wanted a shout out for Liam, Oisin and Cillian who are all involved in the scouts.

After this I caught up with the main man Alan Matthews from Kingswood who was with his wife Deirdre and Fra Meegan whom I’d met earlier and they were awaiting the arrival of Fintan Sheridan from Ard Easmuinn whom may have had a few problems coming down from Lucan for the quiz.

Finally, I got a word with Jeannette Hardy and Colm Murphy from Greenacres who were on for a good night and assured me they’d be in the running for some of the major prizes up for grabs.
