-

Multi-award winning PJ O’Hare’s in Carlingford is celebrating yet again having recently won Best Gastro Pub In Louth at The Irish Restaurant Awards which makes it five times at the top spot now!

This award, along with many other accolades, gives PJ’s fantastic recognition for their continuing dedication to quality, locally sourced dishes at excellent value and their standards of customer service, which are second to none. With their full A La Carte menu served daily, along with daily specials and midweek offers, PJ’s ticks all the boxes for every taste and budget.

For owners Michael and Bernadette Heaney, it is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication to their business. Key roles are played by General Managers, Ciaran Heaney and Keighra Dunlevy and Head Chef, Mark Gallagher who runs the award winning kitchen. “Each and every one of PJ O Hare’s employees should be congratulated on receiving the award” states Michael. “They have all been instrumental in making it such a popular venue for our customers to enjoy great food and service.”

When asked about the key to success, Michael and Bernadette believe it’s all about ploughing resources back into the business and never taking your eye off the ball. “We have some very exciting new developments of our own here at PJ’s with a brand new bar area in the pipeline which we will have open in the coming month,” says Michael.

“Carlingford is an exciting place to be and tourism to the area has grown at an enormous rate since we acquired the business.” They recognised the potential for growth, to cater for and encourage the ever growing tourism industry in the picturesque village. Over the last 17 years, PJ’s has been tastefully transformed from a small traditional bar, to a hugely successful, traditional, award winning pub and Gastro Bar and a mecca for lovers of great food and live entertainment.

Michael praises the investment in the area on projects such as the Greenway and the recent announcement for investment in the renovation of King John’s Castle and is determined to continue developing his own offering in line with this.

As the Spring/Summer season sets in, PJ’s is fully geared up for a phenomenal line up of live music seven days a week. Carefully selected bands attract music lovers every night but the most popular crowd pleaser is the “PJ’s Super Sunday” which features live bands throughout the day, kicking off in the Beer Garden from 3pm and continuing into the night in the indoor bars. The atmosphere each Sunday is electric and completely unrivalled, attracting crowds from far and wide.

PJ’s already boasts four great sections so you’re sure to find something to suit your mood. The original bar remains untouched over the years and features a welcoming open log fire. The Lounge Bar and Gin and Cocktail Bar, open at the weekends, is a tasteful extension by Michael and Bernadette and is the ideal venue for dining, watching sporting events, and enjoying live music and great nights out. The large Beer Garden, to the rear of the property, which is serviced from an outdoor bar, provides the perfect sun trap in summer months but also features state of the art retractable canopies and heaters which makes it a favourite even in bad weather! Beautifully decorated with colourful flowers and hanging baskets and featuring a large screen TV, surround sound system and live bands, ensures the Beer Garden is always bustling with atmosphere!
