Dundalk born singer greets Hollywood stars at NY show

DUNDALK singer songwriter Cathy Maguire greeted Hollywood royalty when she attended an event in Carnegie Hall in New York Last week.

The Dundalk native, who now lives in the big apple, had joined the star studded tribute concert for acclaimed songwriter Jimmy Webb when she bumped into Oscar winning actors Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas.

Describing the couple as ‘absolutely lovely’ when she posted the picture, Cathy said they were among the stars who came out in force to honour Jimmy Webb.

Wall Street star Michael Douglas was also in the line up of performers on the night, along with other names such as pop band Hanson, Amy Grant, Art Garfunkel at the event dubbed A Celebratio­n of the Music of Jimmy Webb: The Cake and the Rain,’

Webb was the songwriter behind such hits as ‘Wichita Lineman,’ ‘ Galveston’ and ‘ By the Time I Get to Phoenix.’

Cathy Maguire has also been forging her own successful career in the music industry in the US over the last few years, also becoming a television star with her show ‘Sunnyside Sessions’ filmed in he own back yard in Queen’s.

Recently she wowed audiences at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York when she performed ‘Our Lady of Knock’ during the St. Patrick’s day celebratio­ns, which has gone viral after being posted on youtube, with nearly 220,00 views so far.

Cathy has since drawn huge praise also for her emotional performanc­e at the month’s mind anniversar­y mass for former Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness in the New York cathedral two weeks ago.
