Joe’s ‘chip’ in on Intel initiative

- Celebrating the success of the Intel Matching Grant Initiative and presenting a cheque to the Joes worth over €4,000 were Director General of the GAA Paraic Duffy, Joe’s Chairman Michael Kinahan, Intel employee and Joes volunteer Adi Carolan and Intel Ire

A FORMER St Joseph’s player netted his club a substantial cash boost recently when he availed of a very worthy scheme run by his employers, Intel.

Adi Carolan took part in the Matching Grant Programme run by the American chip giant, raising over €4,000 for his club. The scheme encourages Intel employees to engage in volunteer work in their community by giving their time and talent to qualified non–profit organisations and clubs.

In 2016 Intel employees volunteered just over 54,000 hours, which were eligible for ‘matching’ through the initiative, resulting in an overall payout of €502,378 to 124 organisations across 20 different counties.

Adi and his fellow volunteers were recognised for their efforts at a special event held at Intel in Leixlip, where it was revealed that the total number of hours volunteered by employees is the equivalent of having 25 people working full-time in the community over the nine years the scheme has been operating.

The Joes is the only club from Louth to benefit from the initiative and club chairman Michael Kinahan paid tribute to Adi and Intel.

‘We’d like to sincerely thank Intel for this very kind donation and to our volunteer Adi Carolan, not only for putting in the hours, but selecting us for the initiative. All we need now is a few more Joes volunteers working in Intel!’
