Cab catch Dundalk cold on home turf

DUNDALK fell just short at home for a second time this season as a strong batting performance from Cabinteely and some missed chances led to a six-wicket defeat in Dromiskin on Saturday.

In the absence of regular skipper Andrew Williams, Sajan Jayaseelan batted first and at various points Dundalk looked set to be on for a score of over 200 from their 40 overs on a fine day for cricket.

Michael Hughes made the most of an early chance to take the attack to Cabinteely’s bowlers as he made 41 and although they were three wickets down at the drinks interval, they were going at four an over and were well set.

A couple of periods where Cabinteely’s bowlers kept things very tight restricted the home side though.

Regin Samuel marshaled the second-half of Dundalk’s batting effort and he hit another half century, finishing on 57 not out as the hosts finished on 181-7 off their 40 overs, other useful contributions coming from Sajan (15), Suseel Dev (18) and Vithun Krshna (10).

It was Regin Samuel who opened the bowling for Dundalk, but he saw an early chance put down in a frustrating start in the field.

Cabinteely made the most of the lucky break and played a forceful game and Dundalk knew the only chance they would have of winning was to take all 10 wickets.

In the end the luck was just not in for Dundalk, Abdul Moeed dropping one extremely difficult chance off his own bowling, Suseel Dev taking a wicket but seeing it ruled out for a no-ball and Brolin Sunther taking a fine catch on the boundary, only to step slightly over the boundary in taking the catch.

Dundalk did take four wickets - Andrew Pike bowling some excellent stuff to end with two, while Brolin and Glenn Armstrong got a wicket each - but Cabinteely did not let victory slip.

That followed on from the opening game og the Division 10 season when Longford scored 247 against Dundalk - Abdul Moeed with three wickets - and half centuries from Sajan Jayaseelan and Rejin Samuel almost got Dundalk a win, though they eventually ended 25 runs short.

Dundalk are back in home action this Saturday as they host Clondalkin in Dromiskin with a 1pm start.
