The Darren Clarke qualifying competition was blessed with some terrific weather but the scorching weather did not reflect on the scoring as the winner Kevin Haughey (24) was the only one in the field to break the 40 point barrier. Kevin will represent the club after his 41 points finished 2 clear of his nearest rivals. Daniel Hughes (10) was the runner-up on the countback from Fintan McAleenan (19). Next weekend is a singles stableford competition. The draws for the club matchplays have been made with the cut off dates for games to be played clearly displayed. Contact details for members to arrange matches can be put on the sheet on the club noticeboard.

A huge congratulations to Vice-Captain Paddy Malone who led his Jimmy Bruen team to qualifying success at Armagh Golf Club. Paddy, Tom Muldoon, Paul & Luke Owens, David McEvoy, Anthony O Hare, David Hamill, Sean Campbell, Terry Taylor and Benny Tierney took the fourth qualifying spot and will face the host club Armagh in the knock-out stages at Tandragee.

Seamus McGivern will take his All-Ireland Fourball team to Loughgall next Suinday with a 41/2 to ½ lead following the home leg. On what is a very busy Sunday for the club the Pierce Purcell team are in qualifying action at Silverwood whilst Paul Kelly will be taking his Ulster Cup team to the home of this years Irish Open for the second leg of their Ulster Cup match with the home leg the day before Saturday at Cloverhill.

The first BC ELECTRICS Friday Open for members and visitors got off to a flying start in windy conditions which made scoring very difficult. After clearing away the cobwebs off the clubs Paddy O Gorman (18) made his seasonal debut a winning one as much to his surprise but it was even a bigger shock to playing partner Patsy Turley as his big mate took the bragging rights straight away for the next few weeks. Paddy was a countback winner from Seamus McGivern (18) whilst third placed Daniel Hughes (10) could not believe his luck that his 31 pts got him a podium finish.

The early leader for the Monthly Bonus Prize of €100 donated by the competition sponsor for the best visitors score is Kevin Commins (6) Ardee with 30 points. Entry Fee: members £7/€8, visitors £12/€14 (which includes entry to the 2’s). You can book online or through the clubhouse.

The Seniors Prize Presentation day was one to remember for Charlie O Hare as he recorded his first ever Hole in One at the 148 yard Hole 16. Congratulations to Charlie whose ace helped him win the Back 9 prize as Raymond Kelly took the Front 9 prize. Jim McDonnell finished in third spot just behind Fr. Kevin Cullen with Joe Hazzard claiming first prize. Next Thursday at 10am there is

another round of the 12 hole Golfer of the Year competition.

The Wednesday Cup was off the back 9 green markers and saw James Coburn (17) complete the perfect 9 holes which yielded him a total of 27 points. A birdie, birdie start was the perfect way to commence and he kept up the tempo for a winning return that was 2 points better off than runner-up Fintan McAleenan. Play this week is off the front 9 green markers.
