SCORAIOCHT EYE SCHEME FUNDING

-

AN application for funding under the Town and Village renewal scheme is to be made by Scoraiocht Lannleire in a bid to carry out works on their car park on the Barn Road.

P.R.O. for Scoraiocht Tommy McCabe has welcomed the scheme and added, ‘with the support of Cllr. Dolores Minogue Chairperson of the Municipal Authority and the good offices of Fergus O’Dowd TD, we will be submitting the Scoraiocht Car Park improvement project for consideration.

This project mainly involves the tarring of the existing surface and the lining and drainage of the area. The submission also includes the provision of lighting.

It presently facilitates the Scoraiocht Lannleire classes as well as the White River Wheelers Bicycle Club and a Park and Ride facility for those catching the buses north and south at the bus stop at Wogans shop.

‘ The streets of Dunleer are full of cars every day of the week and the Council must start to invest in as much off street space as possible. Now with the up turn in the economy the village is getting very busy indeed. Improvements to local infrastructure must keep up with the expanding local economy,’ the PRO stated.

The newly elected Scoraiocht Lannleire Committee is keeping very busy and the new Committee Members are Liam Reynolds Dunleer, Bernard Carrie Dunleer and Ollie Devine Dunleer along with Peter Farrelly of Castlelumney and Helen Seagrave of Trinity Gardens Drogheda along with Dolly Flanagan Dunleer. All six members are already bringing a new dynamic to the Committee in the space of a month.

Liam Reynolds is involved in Scoraiocht since the young age of ten and was appointed at the AGM to assist the long standing Musical Director Bartle Woods in his duties. Bartle who celebrated his 80th Birthday in the ‘Valley Inn’ recently, was a founder member of Scoraiocht Lannleire back 43 years ago.

Drogheda woman Helen Seagrave took up the duties of ‘Secretary’ at the AGM. Helen’s family has strong connections to quite a few Mid Louth families in Dunleer, Grangebellow and Annagassan. Helen has been running the Wednesday Night Sean Nos Dancing Classes at Scoraiocht for close to ten years now. Her group of dancers starred in the ‘Wild Goose Lodge’ movie which was released in 2016.

Peter Farrelly is Assistant Treasurer, and Bernard Carrie is to take charge of the Technical end of things such as Sound & Lighting and IT. The return of Founder Member ‘Dolly Flanagan’ to the Committee was very warmly welcomed. Dolly and her husband ‘Honorary President’ John Flanagan made such a great contribution to the organistaion since its foundation back in the Summer of 1974. Continuing as Treasurer is Bernadette Sharkey of Dawson’s Demesne Ardee. Long standing Scoraiocht man Declan Dunne of Hacketts Cross Clogherhead was also re-elected to the Committee at the AGM.

Former Secretary Rose Downes of Collon was also praised for her work spanning over approx. 20 years on the Committee. Oliver Lynch of Philipstown and Hugh Conlon Dunleer were also elected to the New Committee.

The New Committee would like to thank Eimear Connor from Togher for her contribution to the Committee over the past few years. Eimear is a great supporter of the Friday Nights at Scoraiocht and well known by everybody in Dunleer at her job in the local Spar Shop.

Also Owen O’Reagan of Forest Edge Drogheda who has served on the committee for a number of years was also thanked.
