Tributes paid to M1 crash victim

TRIBUTES have been paid to a 36-yer-old man from Castlebell­ingham who died following a crash on the M1 motorway last week.

Robert Carroll, who had been living at Clermont Manor, Blackrock and is formerly from Main Street Castlebell­ingham died when the black Volvo S40 he was driving was in collision with an articulate­d lorry between junctions 13 and 14 northbound on the M1 at around 1.40am on Tuesday.

The male driver of the truck, aged in his mid 60s, was uninjured.

Robert, who was a crane operator and formerly worked at Suretank in Dunleer, was a loving dad of Renée and Leon and was the much-loved son of Jim and Carol-Ann.

He is very sadly missed by his daughter, son, parents, brothers Thomas and Andrew, sisters Jacqueline and Talitha, brother in-law John, sister-in-law Karen, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, Polly and Kathy, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Tributes were paid online to Robert, including one where he was described as ‘a beautiful person, a pleasure to have known’.

Another wrote: ‘ Robbie you were always a breath of fresh air, happy smiling, fun loving, you’ll be sadly missed’.

After reposing at his home at Clermont Manor on Wednesday and Thursday, removal took place on Friday morning to his parents’ residence in Castlebell­ingham before going to St. Mary’s Church, Kilsaran arriving for funeral Mass, followed by burial in adjoining cemetery.

And just hours before Robert’s death, there was another fatal traffic collision on the M1 motorway between junction 7 and junction 8 southbound near Julianstow­n, Co. Meath.

The single vehicle crash happen at about 8.30am on Monday June 5. The driver of an articulate­d truck, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
