Mary was a very devoted mother to Cathal, their only child, and dedicated herself to his care and welfare, and to her role as housewife.

Her religion was a central tenet of her life. She regularly attended Mass and was devoted to Saint Brigid, attending the annual Novena in the saint’s honour in Saint Nicholas’s Church.

She was a daughter of the late Charles and Bridget Fitzsimons, and was one of eight children in the family, comprised of two sons, and six daughters.

Her sister, Carmel Murray, who resides in Manchester, is the sole surviving sibling. She was predeceased by brothers, Gerry and Charlie; and sisters, Rita, Chrissie, Louie, and Ruth.

Mary, as she grew up, attended Castletown National School. After leaving education, she went to work in the local shoe trade, gaining employment in Hallidays and later Clarks.

Her husband, Paddy hails from Newry, and when they married the couple moved into Mary’s family home. Shortly afterwards Mary retired from work to apply herself wholeheartedly to the task of running the family home and taking care of Cathal.

Mary’s passing is very deeply regretted by husband, Paddy; son, Cathal; sister, Carmel; nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and staff of Saint Peter’s Nursing Home.

She reposed at Shevlin’s Funeral Home from Sunday until her removal on Monday afternoon to Saint Joseph’s Church, Castletown.

Father Vinod celebrated Requiem Mass and gave the eulogy. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.

Members of the family took part in the Mass, with the Readings given by her grand nephews, Lesley Carron and James Gardiner.

The Prayers of the Faithful were led by Norma Cooney, Pat Agnew, Rita Hughes and Jack Greene, grand-nieces and grand-nephew.

The Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by niece, Carol Shannon and Norma Cooney.
