Play to music
Pupils in Saint Fursey’s School have been playing to music at break time, helping them to become more active and exercise more with the good weather.
The main medium is dancing with older pupils demonstrating moves and routines to their younger counterparts.
This fun way to exercise is stimulated by the relaying of music into the school yard during lunch break.
It is a fun way to get pupils to move, twist and even jump about, and gain the exercise that according to the experts children aren’t doing enough of nowadays.
The activity has become part of the lunch time routine with the improved weather over the last while, which is more conducive to engage in the sort of activity recommended for a healthy lifestyle.
Novel bicycle scheme The student council at Saint Fursey’s School have struck on a novel way involving unwanted bicycles to raise additional funds to defray the cost of a prosthetic hand for local mother Niamh Boyle.
Niamh has children attending the school, and a very successful quiz was organised recently by it in conjunction with the Parents Association to help with the appeal to obtain the sum needed.
A separate appeal was made for the donation of bicycles, which drew a very healthy response. The student council consisting of representatives from each of the senior classes from third to sixth grade, planned to have the bicycles refurbished for re-sale.
A parent involved in the bicycle trade kindly stepped in to undertake to do the work. When he has completed the work on those fit for repair, they will be offered for sale.
The proceeds then will be handed over to the very worthy cause.
