- Ann Marie Caraher 1960-2017

THE death has taken place of Ann Marie Caraher, Upper Merches, Dublin Road, Dundalk.

She passed away peacefully at home on 22 May, 2017, surrounded by her family, following a short illness, and just six days after her 57th birthday.

Ann Marie was a daughter of the late Frances and James Hearty, Meadow Grove, Dundalk, one of four girls in the family.

After receiving her education in Castletown National School and St. Vincent’s Secondary School, she worked for 20 years in P. J. Carrolls on the Dublin Road, as a secretary in the laboratory section.

For the last ten years, Ann Marie was employed as secretary and regional administrator for the Sisters of St. Louis.

She loved her job, and had great passion for her work, and was known for her organisational skills. She continued working up until last March.

Ann Marie married Chris Caraher in 1987, and together they had two children, Colin and

Gráinne.

She was heavily involved in St.

Gerard’s AC, acting as secretary, when both Colin and

Gráinne represented the club.

Above all else a great family woman, Ann Marie was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking. She also loved going on holidays.

The regard in which Ann Marie and her family are held was reflected in the hundreds of people who called to the house and attended the funeral; and Chris, Colin and Gráinne are very grateful for everyone’s kindness.

Ann Marie is survived by her husband, Chris; son, Colin; daughter, Gráinne; sisters, Pauline, Nicola and Carol; brothers-in-law, Seán Martin, Rory Durnin and Paul Valentine; nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

After reposing at home, her remains were removed to St. Joseph’s Redemptorist Church, where the funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Eamon Kavanagh.

The readings were given by nephew, Stephen Martin and sister, Nicola Durnin; and prayers of the faithful were led by daughter, Gráinne; nieces, Hayley Martin, Aoife Valentine, Shauna Martin; and Shane Caraher and Liam Coakley.

Shauna also gave a commentary on the symbols representing Ann Marie’s life which were brought to the altar – a family photo, cook book, book and a file from work.

Her sister, Pauline Martin participated in the offertory procession.

Beautiful music and singing enhanced the ceremony. Niall Caraher, Chris’s nephew, sang; accompanied by organist, Trevor Clarke and Mickey Clarke on the tin whistle.

At the end of Mass, Ann Marie’s son, Colin gave a reading. The funeral took place afterwards to Dardistown Crematorium, followed by burial in Haggardstown cemetery.
