Goals galore as the Royals rule

-

GERRY REILLY U-16 MEATH 5-18 LOUTH 6-6 THERE were goals galore as Meath picked up their second victory in the Gerry Reilly U-16 FT following this win over their neighbours last Friday evening.

The outcome was a little more convincing than the scoreline suggests as the hosts led 5-7 to 2-5 with less than 10 minutes remaining. Meath rung the changes in the closing stages and Louth hit back with four consecutive goals to greatly increase their tally by the finish.

Louth’s Cathal Fleming opened the scoring with a point, but then Meath replied with six successive points by the 11th minute.

Dunderry’s Adam Kelly finished a great move to the Louth net for Meath’s first goal and Bryan McCormack had Meath’s second goal of the opening half.

Daire Nally accounted for Louth’s opening goal and when Jonathan Commins added a second it left just three points between the sides.

Brian O’Hanlon and Luke Mitchell had points late in the half to leave Meath ahead 2-9 to 2-4 at half-time.

Kelly, McCormack and Mitchell struck for goals in the second half as Meath totally dominated. However there was some consolation for the Louth boys as Nally, Fleming and Jonathan Commins all netted.

Meath’s Colin Hawdon was presented with the RESPA ‘Man of the match’ award by John Farrelly from Oldcastle GFC.
