Homeless update from council
LOUTH County Council has revealed that it has started work on the development of a new Regional Homeless Action Plan. In its housing services progress report, the Louth authority provided an anonymous and aggregated return of all individuals accessing emergency accommodation between May 22 and May 28 inclusive, showing that 126 people came to them to access emergency accommodation.
The statistics show that 85 were given private emergency accommodation, with 41 provided with supported temporary accommodation.
The figures are broken down to show families with dependent children and reveal that four people, with seven kids between them were part of the figures, with a further 14 couples, and 37 children, included in the statistics.
The Department of Housing, the councillors were told, request a report based on a week in time be submitted based on the number of people placed in emergency accommodation in Louth, Cavan and Monaghan.
Over the same period, two people in Cavan and one in Monaghan accessed emergency accommodation, compared to the 126 in Louth.
The report is available to view at www.housing.gov.ie/ housing/ homelessness/other/ homelessness- data.
The council added that, to date in 2017, 29 households have left emergency accommodation and moved into long term accommodation via the Housing Assistance Payments (HAP), social housing and approved housing bodies.
