FOUNDATION WELCOMES SUPPORT OF CHARITY EVENTS ACROSS LOUTH
FUNDRAISING for the vital services at the Maria Goretti centre continues, with a recent coffee morning held in Houston’s department store in Clanbrassil Street.
Houstons staff hosted the event for customers in a bid to raise funds for the The Maria Goretti Foundation which operates the children’s respite centre at Lordship.
Julie Hanna, store manager said: ‘Many thanks to all the staff who were busy baking and to our very generous customers who helped to raise €600!’
She explained that staff were delighted to host the event for the foundation which helps over eighty families in the Louth area.
‘So many thanks to all those who supported this worthy cause.’
The foundation is a registered charity and is committed to the support of children with disabilities.
The centre at Lordship is currently a purpose built eight bed-roomed facility that operates under the auspices of the HSE and is currently managed by Rehab Care.
The foundation, which was the vision of the late Cooley native John O’Hanlon, seeks to further the cause of children with disabilities and is specifically focused in research in this field.
Building on the experience of the children and families that use the centre, the foundation are ‘committed to responding creatively to their needs into the future.’
A spokeswoman for the foundation explained that they are focused on continuing to develop the facility at Lordship and improving and extending capacity at the centre.
‘We will work with other agencies to ensure that the service provided to the children who use it and their families, is of the highest quality.’
The foundation is currently exploring a number of projects that will further enhance the centre including roofing for the play area so that it can be used all year round, along with additional children’s rooms, provision of a sensory garden, and to fund further research.
