IFA lead farm safety awareness week

-

THE IFA is once again the lead organisation in Ireland in conjunction with the UK for Farm Safety Week 24th – 28th July 2017.

Riona Meehan, Louth IFA secretary explained that in 2016 there were 21 farm deaths recorded and, to date in 2017, there have already been 17 farm deaths.

‘It is imperative that we get the Farm Safety message across.

She explained that this year the campaign will focus on a different risk each day including; importance of farm safety partnerships; machinery and transport; falls; livestock and slurry; and children on farms.’

The IFA will highlight these risks daily on their website, and farmers will get texts as daily reminders.

‘Louth Farmers are asked to use this week to give extra thought to planning safety on their farms, to make time to update their Farm Risk Assessment Document and see are there actions they can take during this very busy time of year which will make their farm a safer place for them, their families and all working there.’

‘We are also very thankful to local Louth businesses, Ard Products, Deeside Country Store, PJ Callan, IFM, O’Sullivan Safety Centre, Dromad Hire, Hoey Parts & Plant Sales, Cookstown Dairy Services and Flagstaff Farm & Hardware Supplies, who have thrown themselves into this safety campaign. ‘Remember farmers…… you are the most valuable resource on your farm!
