Jaytee still

- FRANCIS CARROLL

WINNING trainer Paul Hennessy has more big race targets in mind for Jaytee Jet, who gave him a second Dundalk International last Wednesday night.

Sponsored for the first time by the Racing Post, the 12 July feature produced a thrilling finish as Jaytee Jet, the oldest runner in the line-up, came from off the pace to collar Bubbly Bluebird close home.

The Gowran kennel was previously successful in the 2013 International with Priceless Sky.

Jaytee Jet, owned by Englishman, John Turner, has now landed a major trophy in each of his three seasons of racing.

As a pup, he won the 2015 Irish Derby Consolation, and last year took the Easter Cup before his greatest triumph in the final English Derby staged at Wimbledon.

After reaching the quarter-finals at Towcester in defence of his Derby crown, he moved on to Dundalk where he showed the younger bucks how to do it.

And there could be more to come from Jaytee Jet, who turns four in September, in the Champion Stakes and Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park.

‘You know, you might as well strike while the iron is hot with a dog like him,’ remarked Hennessy as he received congratulations from race-goers.

‘He is well this year, and sound in himself. It’s highly likely he will probably take in the Champion Stakes next.’

A first English-trained winner since Blonde Dino in 2008 looked on the cards when Bubbly Bluebird stretched clear of the field.

He had around six lengths in hand of Droopys Wilbury and an improving Jaytee Jet at halfway.

However, Jet took off from that point, accelerating into the third
