Castletown ICA Guild marks 21st anniversary
July 1987
CASTLETOWN guild celebrates 21 years in the ICA with a dinner in the Carrickdale Hotel.
President, Christobel Clifford welcomes past presidents, past members and friends to a very special occasion.
She tells the 220-strong gathering, ‘ The foundation of any organisation is the keystone of its future success, and in Castletown House on 7 July, 1966, the solid foundation of Castletown guild ICA was well and truly established.
‘We are very fortunate to have three of our founder-members still active in our guild today, and I am very happy to say that they are here with us tonight, Molly Nulty, Jean Newell and Daisy McCourt.
‘With some twenty other members, they saw the guild through its infancy, teething troubles – which according to the records were many – teenage years, right up to its coming of age today.’
The president recalls the guild was restless in the early days, moving from Castletown House to Marian Park, from there to the Legion Hall, and then to its present home since 1977, the De La Salle.
‘From the beginning, we have participated in all competitions, and the format hasn’t changed much since. Our ladies have entered every craft competition, carrying off many awards.
‘Looking to the future, I see Castletown guild beaming well into the next century.
‘It is up to us to hand on what is best in life, let it be in the cultural, social or sporting field, to new members, and in that way, we will continue what our founders started 21 years ago.’
After dinner, presentations are made to the founder-members, past presidents and Christobel Clifford, before everyone enjoys the entertainment laid on.
