TIDY TOWNS

Kilkerley has entered the National Tidy Towns after an absence of a few years. We are also entered in the Louth Tidy Towns – Louth Looking Good scheme .The village was looking great last week end for the annual blessing of the graves and it is hoped it will stay that way for the remainder of the judging season. A big thank you to the FAS/CE workers for all their hard work leading up to Patrun Sunday. The old

Athletics Hall and walls in front of the old school are being painted which will improve the appearance. Louth Tidy Towns run an annual Litter League competition and as we are competing in this as well any help in keeping KIlkerley litter free this summer would be appreciated. To celebrate Kilkerley re- entry in the National Tidy Towns competition we are running a poetry competition. The poem should be in the form of a Limerick with a recycling theme and Kilkerley should also get a mention within the 5 lines. So get the kids to get their rhyming poems on paper. Cash prizes for the 3 best entries. Please e- mail entry to kilkerleytidytowns@gmail.com.

BRING BANK

Louth County Council has advised that with effect from Monday of this week July, 17 2017, it will no longer be providing the service of collection of plastics from our bring bank network. This services was being provided at a substantial cost to the Council.

Other County Councils do not provide the collection and recycling of plastics at Bring Banks such as for example: Meath County Council, Kildare County Council (although Tesco have provided one plastic container at a bring Bank on one of their sites), Longford County Council, Wicklow County Council.

As plastics can be recycled through the Green Bin service, the expensive provision of a plastics recycling service at the Bring Banks is becoming increasingly redundant in the County. For those without a Green Bin service this service is still available at the Civic amenity Sites in Dundalk and Drogheda.

The savings will facilitate the maintenance of a full street sweeping service including village sweeps, helping to protect this area of activity from the ongoing budgetary pressure faced by all our services.
