Louth man stabbed in shock knife attack

LOCAL MAN IN HIS 40S SUSTAINED FACIAL INJURIES IN SERIOUS ASSAULT

GARDAI have launched an investigation into a shocking knife attack in Knockbridge last weekend

A man in his 40s was reported to have received facial wounds following an attack with a knife at around 10.45 on Friday night last in the centre of the quiet village.

It is believed that the man was confronted by a group of youths after he left the local pub and crossed the road.

He was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where he received stitches.

A garda spokesman confirmed they examines CCTV footage.

TGardai have appealed for witnesses and have asked anyone with information to contact Ardee Garda station.

Louth Councillor Tomas Sharkey condemned the attack, saying:

‘A resident was attacked while walking to his home on a Friday night in a rural small village. I have spoken to the victims friends. He has serious injuries to his face and will take a long time to recover fully. I wish him well.’

Cllr. Sharkey said that the shocking attack came after a number of incidents over the last year

‘ This violent assault is a stark reminder to us all that there is a local antisocial element in our community.’

‘Families living in the village have been targetted by youths and intimidated in their homes. Drugs are available freely in the area like in most neighbourhoods across Louth.’

He added: ‘ This incident needs to act as a wake up call to all of us. Unchecked antisocial behaviour often leads to criminal activities. Unsupervised children often end up making bad decisions. An under resourced Garda Force leaves areas open to crime.’

Meanwhile, in Dundalk the gardai are also investigating an assault on a 19 year old man along Park Street in the early hours of Friday morning last.

The teen was reported to have been in an altercation with another male when an unidentified woman came out and threw a pint glass at his face.

He was taken to hospital and his injuries resulted in 13 stitches required.

Gardai are examining CCTV and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, believed to have taken place between 2.30 and 4.30a.m to contact them.

There was an attempted break in at Mount Carmel on the Dublin Road on Thursday morning last. The occupant of the house awoke to the sound of the alarm going off as an intruder attempted to gain access.

A resident of St. Ronan’s Terrace on the Castletown was pre- paring to leave home at 9.30a.m on Friday morning last when he heard his doorbell goin.

He did not answer the door but looked out and then saw a red haired male, described as having a medium build and around 5ft 10 in height going down the driveway.

The male returned ten minutes later with a number of others and used a crowbar to try and gain entry to the house. They failed to get in, and fled to an entryway at the rear of the property.

Gardai are also investigating the theft from a van parked at Ard Easmuinn on Tuesday evening last.

The owner was packing the van, and believes a number of items were stolen as he was doing so. The following morning he noticed a Dell black laptop was missing, along with a mobile phone and a few hard drives. There was no damage to the vehicle so the believed it may have happened the previous evening.
