40th league goal for McEleney

Patrick McEleney’s strike against Limerick on Friday night was his 10th goal in all competitions this season and his ninth in the league. It was also the 40th league goal of his career in total, with his free kick taking his tally of league goals for Dundalk to 12, adding to the 28 he had scored in six seasons at Derry City prior to that.

Amazingly, in the 11 games that McEleney has scored in since joining the club, Dundalk have won all of them and kept clean sheets in 10 of them. Wexford are the only team to have scored against the Lilywhites in a match that McEleney has scored in.

Double landmark for Gar tland

It was also a landmark goal for Brian Gartland in more ways than one when he headed home Michael Duffy’s delivery eight minutes into the second half. His header was the 50th league goal Dundalk had scored this season, while it was also his 25th league goal for the club since arriving from Portadown in July 2013.

Benson hits double figures

Robbie Benson (below) completed a night of landmark goals at Oriel Park, with his header on 56 minutes being his 10th goal for the club since joining from UCD at the start of 2016.

Clean sheet record equalled

Dundalk’s season to date might not compare with last year, but their clean sheet against Limerick on Friday night was their 15th of the season - equalling the total achieved in the whole of last season.
