Glenmuir sunk by late Kells striker Glenmuir

GLENMUIR FC KELLS CELTIC 2 3

A freak goal ten minutes from time inflicted defeat on Glenmuir in their opening game in their new surroundings of the third division of the North East League played at Glenmuir Park on Friday night.

Little danger apparently lurked for the home side as a visiting player was in possession on the end line near the corner flag and no one to help him in the box, but as he turned the ball across the home goal it somehow sailed over goalkeeper David Hughes.

It was very unfortunate for the stand-in custodian who normally plays outfield, but manager Kevin McArdle had no regular goalkeeper to call upon, and that has to be a priority as late goals at this stage of the season is hurting the side badly.

Kells took the lead after ten minutes when their centre-half beat the home defence in the air to head to the net.

Glenmuir equalised ten minutes later. Liam Cunningham advanced down the left and crossed for Darren Tuite to take a touch and volley the ball in off the underside of the Kells crossbar.

Kells regained the lead five minutes later when their centre-half won a long ball to set up his right winger to slam to the net.

However, Glenmuir again equalised five minutes from the break. Darren Tuite drew a brilliant save from the Kells goalkeeper but Ronan Hand re-acted quickest to tap in the rebound. GLENMUIR: David Hughes, Edgar Bitanis, Tolani, Niall Hand, Pat Crilly, Ronan Hand, Mark and Ronan Molloy, Liam Cunningham, Darren Tuite, Brendan Sheils. Subs used Peter McStravick, Conor Keenan, Liam McKenny, Jake Nagle.
