Family organise walk to help Jack & Jill
A big turnout is expected for the Up the Hill for Jack & Jill event taking place in Carlingford on Saturday.
The event is being raised by Adam Doyle as a way of saying ‘ thank you’ to the Jack and Jill Foundation which has provided support for his two and a half year old son Noah who is awaiting treatment for scoliosis.
It promises to be a fun day out for all the family as Adam and his supporters have put together three different routes to cater for walkers of all abilities.
‘We are going to have three routes to cater for everyone from children to grannies, as well as an extra tough one for the fitness fanatics,’ explains Adam, who coaches with Dundalk Rugby Club.
The Leprechaun Run has been designed to challenge the fittest of runners, as participants have to carry a 25kg pot of ‘gold’ up and down the mountain.
Teams from local sports clubs, including Dundalk RFC and the army, have signed up for this challenge.
However, those seeking to do a more leisurely walk are also being catered for with easier routes to do.
All routes will offer beautiful views of Carlingford Lough and the Mourne Mountains.
‘It’s going to be a great family day with music, entertainment and food,’ says Adam who is planning to do one of the walks carrying Noah on his back.
There are sponsorship cards for those who want to raise funds while people can also contribute through registering on the day.
The cost of registration is €16, which, as Adam points out, is how much it costs the Jack & Jill Foundation to provide an hour’s home nursing for families with children going through a difficult time.
Walkers can register any time between 9am and 1pm, giving plenty of flexibility to fit in a walk. Drinks and snacks will be provided along the route,
Adam is delighted with the support he has received to date and thanks Ciaran Herr, Tommy McGuinness and all the team at Horseware who have donated €2500 to the event and CX sports are also donating t-shirts for those who take part.
