Dunleer junction to be reviewed in area plan

-

TRAFFIC management at the main junction in Dunleer came under the spotlight as councillors reviewed the newly amended Dunleer Local Area plan (LAP) at their monthly meeting.

CEO Joan Martin said there were seven submission received after a consultation process, and these had furnished the latest report.

Although there were no major issues highlighted, the junction in Dunleer which is ‘sometimes chaotic’ will be looked at as part of the local area plan.

It will be included with a review of parking in the town centre, with the local authority set to look at the provision of parking and ‘re-organising’ the way people are parking.

Cllr. Frank Godfrey told the meeting that parking has become an issue as the village becomes more popular.

He added that the council should look to building on lands they own in the Dunleer area, but warned against areas of flood risk.

He queried how much land the local authority actually owned in the mid-Louth village.

The meeting heard that there are an estimated 5.6 hectares which are owned by the council.

Members were told that a strategic flood risk strategy had been carried out in 2016. Following on from this, and as a result of best practice and a submission from the Department of the Environment, lands that are at risk of flooding in Dunleer have been zoned as ‘open space’ in the Local Area Plan.

The plan was proposed by Cllr. Frank Godfrey, and seconded by Dolores Minogue (pictured).
