EU launch for Brexit Border Corridor report
COUNCILLORS welcomed completion of the ‘Brexit and the Border Corridor’ report which Louth County Council played a key role in developing.
Members heard that the report followed joint research which looked at ‘risk, opportunities and issues to consider’ undertaken by the eleven local authorities in the border area, north and south, including Louth.
CEO Joan Martin told members that the vulnerability of the border area as a result of Brexit informed the report.
Areas such as cross border funding, the movement of people between north and south, and the various industries that are impacted were among the key elements looked at.
Ms.Martin said that the findings of a cross border conference at Lough Erne in Enniskillen earlier this year, which representatives of Louth County Council attended, also informed the report.
She told councillors that it is expected to be launched in Brussels in the coming weeks, and would help local authorities from the border region to lobby.
Welcoming the report, Cllr. Emma Coffey said the report highlighted the extensive work that ‘ has been going on in the background’.
She added: ‘ Throughout the country it can be used as a blue print, There is a lot of information contained within it, information which can be accessed by everyone who is going to be impacted by Brexit.’
