Driverfledon foot

-

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a driver who caused more than €3,000 damage to another car.

Tom Maguire (22), 101 Doolargy Avenue, Muirhevanmór, Dundalk, failed to turn up at Dundalk court to face a number of charges arising out of the incident on 29 May, 2017.

He was accused of dangerous driving and having neither insurance or driving licence, and two hit and run charges.

The court heard he fled on foot following the impact, before being apprehended almost immediately by gardaí.

Sinéad McCaughey gave evidence that she was stopped on Hoey’s Lane, waiting to turn right into Dunnes Stores.

She heard tyres screeching behind her, before being rear-ended.

The other driver ran out of the car, and into Muirhevnamór. Gardaí were on the scene, and chased him.

They brought him back in the back of their car, and it was the same man.

Ms. McCaughey added over €3,000 damage was caused to her vehicle.

Garda McEvoy said he saw Maguire’s car take off down Hoey’s Lane, towards the inner relief road.

It crashed into the back of a Ford Focus, and he saw the driver get out and run into Aghameen Park, where he was subsequently apprehended for dangerous driving.

Judge Coughlan issued a warrant for sentence.
