Five-star Woodview in the mix

-

A solid start to the season has ensured Woodview are well in touch with the main challengers for the second division title, as they chalked up their fourth win, with only one defeat in their five games to date.

They made a slow start to this away game on Sunday and fell behind after five minutes as a result of a defensive error.

Once they settled however, they had the measure of their hosts and Niall Mackin put them level after 15 minutes with a lovely individual goal. He ran down the left wing, cut into the box and placed his shot into the far corner,

He nabbed his second five minutes later to put the visitors ahead. From a break down the right this time the ball was crossed into the box and from about 12 yards out he smashed a volley into the bottom corner.

However, he had to retire with a groin injury and was replaced by new signing Gavin Gaffey from Bellurgan who made an impact straight away. Conor Macken played him down the left to cross to Caolan Dines who blocked by defender turned

the ball back to Gaffey to bend it the op corner from all of 30 yards.

Deane Browne made it 4-1 on 50 minutes. Danann Killeen played a great ball in from the left and Browne from the edge of the box lobbed the keeper.

Fifteen minutes later Browne scored again from inside the box following lovely link up play involving Macken and Kieran Clinton in midfield for Macken to play Browne through to chip the advancing keeper.

The winners then took the foot of the pedal and gave away two cheap goals as a result

of slack defending.
