100metre champion Gina to launch St.Vincents 5k

Runners in the St. Vincent’s annual 5k will have a star in their midst as past pupil and current European under 20 100 metres champion Gina Apke-Moses will launch the race taking place on Sunday October 22nd.

Due to the huge turnout last year for the event organisers have made two significan­t changes this year including the most significan­t - a route change. The event will start at the school gym, and then head out onto Inner Relief Road, on to Racecourse Road, Newry Road, Fairgreen, riverbank, back out onto Inner Relief Road and then back to the school gym. This year the event will be a Chip and Pin run.

Also this year Professor Niall Moyna from DCU of Operation Transforma­tion will be a mentor for the students along with students Patience Jumbo Gala and Kate O Connor

Prizes for the run include: 1st adult male- Playertek sys- tem, and 1st adult female - Playertek system. The 2nd place adult male wins a Felda three month membership and the second adult female also wins the Felda three month membership.

The male third place winners gets a voucher for Luxe Spa Four Seasons Hotel, Carlingfor­d, and the third place female winner also wins a voucher for Luxe Spa Four Seasons Hotel. The 1st place St Vincents student to win will receive €200, while the first under 18 student also wins €200. The 2nd student prize is a hair and make up voucher, while the 3rd student winner receives a Brendan Reid voucher.

Entrance fee is €15 and a limited amount of tee shirts will be available to purchase for €10. Pre-registrati­on will take place in the school from 9-4 on Friday 20th October and also in the gym before the race. All proceeds from the event will go towards a multipurpo­se outdoor sports area.
