Nearly 100 signed up to text alert scheme

-

More people are encouraged to join the local Text Alert scheme which has proved a big deterrent to committing crime across the country and in helping protect communities.

The scheme was set up by the Haggardstown and Dublin Road Community Alert Committee and close on a 100 signed up to take part in it.

Basically participants agree to provide their mobile phone for communication with the Gardai.

Essentially they agree to receive text alerts from the Gardai, such as by way of warning in passing on information that has been obtained, or seeking assistance, with the overall intention of making the community safer and secure.

The participants might also wish or be requested to advise the Gardai in relation to suspicious activity by individuals or regarding cars or the like.

The area also has been allocated a dedicated contact number, which is displayed on signs in the area, for visitors or residents not in the text alert scheme, to contact the Gardai if they see or hear of something that they think might require the attention of the force.

It is a simple procedure to join the scheme, involving the signing of a form and providing your name and number.
