Checkpoints

Another quite effective deterrent to curbing crime has been the random and regular checkpoints mounted by Gardai in the area.

They have had a favourable impact on crime, and also in discouraging speeding and other motoring offences.

These checkpoints are to continue for the foreseeable future, at least until the end of the year, a meeting of the Community Alert Committee heard.

Since the introduction of the checkpoints the level of crime has fallen.
